Questions about Teeth Whitening
Serving Patients from Medford, Klamath Falls, Ashland, Yreka and Central Point
Will bleaching and whitening damage my teeth?
No research has found that professional teeth whitening procedures do any structural damage to your teeth. It has also been our experience that those of our patients who have undergone multiple whitening procedures have not suffered any damage to their tooth enamel as a result.
How white should I go?
Many first-time teeth whitening patients get anxious and want maximum whiteness. While this goal may sound enticing, it often looks very unnatural. We will discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations at length during your initial consultation, and settle on a shade of whiteness that looks best for your smile.
I am concerned about tooth sensitivity after my whitening procedure. What should I expect?
We use the UV-free DenMat plasma arc light, which we believe is the best in-office whitening system in terms of minimizing tooth and gum sensitivity. However, as with any bleaching gel treatment, you should expect some sensitivity after your procedure. To what degree you will experience tooth sensitivity, we cannot say. In most cases, any pronounced sensitivity will go away within a day or two. Desensitizing gels will be provided for you immediately after your procedure to help alleviate any discomfort.
How long will my teeth remain white after my treatment?
Maintaining your newly-whitened teeth will require you to make some changes in your diet and lifestyle. If you regularly drink dark teas, red wine, coffee, or if you use tobacco products, do not expect your teeth to remain white for long. Many other foods and beverages can cause teeth to stain as well. Keep this general rule of thumb in mind: if it will stain your carpet, it will stain your teeth.
How does Laser Tooth Whitening differ from other methods?
This procedure is virtually identical to the DenMat plasma arc light procedure. A peroxide gel is applied to the teeth, but instead of using the plasma arc light to activate the gel, we use a laser.
