Am I a good candidate for Dental Veneers?

If your teeth are discolored, worn, slightly crooked, misshapen, chipped or cracked, then dental veneers might be the perfect option for you. If your teeth are severely damaged or diseased, then you will likely need more extensive work done. A consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist will be necessary to determine which options are best for you.

Will the procedure be painful?

Expect some mild discomfort during tooth preparation and fitting. We use a local anesthetic during the procedure, so you should feel no pain.

How long will my Porcelain Veneers last?

Your veneers will probably not last forever, though they should last for several years if they are properly cared for. Many of the veneers we have placed have lasted well over ten years.

I have heard that Porcelain Veneers do not stain like regular teeth. Is this true?

Porcelain is much more resistant to staining than natural tooth enamel. However, porcelain will stain eventually, as will the cement used to bond the veneers to the teeth. Brushing and flossing regularly, and avoiding stain-causing foods, beverages, and tobacco products will keep your veneers white for many years.

What should I do to take care of my Dental Veneers?

It is essential that you brush and floss regularly. Your veneers will cover your tooth up to your present gum line. If you allow plaque to build up, your gums may recede, exposing part of the tooth that is not covered by the veneer. This will be aesthetically undesirable.

You will want to avoid exposing your veneers to excessive force. If you engage in contact sports, be sure to wear a mouthguard. Also, if you grind your teeth when you sleep, be sure to wear a mouthguard. Avoid biting down on hard objects such as ice, hard candy, fingernails, pens, or anything similar.
