Porcelain veneers are an increasingly popular option for people with mildly crooked, discolored, chipped, worn, or short and stubby teeth. Porcelain’s durability and resistance to staining are two of the great advantages to choosing veneers. Ideal candidates have otherwise healthy teeth that do not require more extensive treatments such as dental crowns or bridges. With veneers, you can face the world anew with the perfect smile you have always wanted.

The procedure

Consulting, planning, preparation and final fitting of veneers typically requires three office visits. During your initial consultation, you and your dentist will discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations, as well as all of the veneer options that are available to you. Your dentist will then evaluate your smile and other facial structures in order to present you with an individualized treatment plan. As with any cosmetic dental procedure, the ultimate success or failure will hinge on your ability to be honest with your dentist about your goals and expectations. Please visit our consultation page for a thorough discussion of how to prepare for, and what to expect during this consultation.

Your second office visit will involve preparing your teeth for their new veneers. Your dentist will begin by removing a thin layer from the surface of the teeth. Just enough is removed to allow for the veneers to be bonded to the remaining teeth so as not to cause the teeth to be thicker. An impression will then be taken of your prepared teeth to be sent to the lab where your veneers will be sculpted. Temporary veneers will be placed on your teeth to wear until your permanent veneers are ready for placement.

Permanent veneers typically take a couple weeks to be manufactured. When they are done, you will then be ready for final fitting. Your dentist will permanently bond your new veneers to your prepared teeth, make any necessary touch-up adjustments, and then your new smile will be complete.

Although the procedure may sound fairly simple, successful placement of veneers requires a tremendous amount of experience and skill. Many dentists can place veneers properly, but it takes the intuition and talent of an artist to place veneers that not only look great, but also look natural.

At Eagle Point Dental, we have the experience and talent to give you the smile you desire and deserve. If you live in Southern Oregon and think porcelain veneers might be right for you, please contact us today to arrange a consultation.
