Demand for porcelain veneers has grown substantially in recent years. This rise in demand has inspired companies to develop a number of different manufacturing methods and refinements on the traditional veneer. Although there are a number of manufacturers out there making various claims, all veneers are basically thin shells of ceramic that are bonded to your teeth. Below is a brief overview of some of the different variations on the market today.

Pressed vs. layered veneers

Pressed veneers and layered veneers differ in the way that they are manufactured. Pressed veneers are made with a process similar to traditional mold-and-die casting. Layered veneers are created by hand, where the ceramicist “paints” the ceramic around the mold, hence, building the veneer layer by layer. Layered veneers are considerably more time-consuming and expensive, but the result is a more natural-looking veneer.

Lumineers

These name-brand veneers have a few advantages. Because they are so thin, there is no need to remove any tooth enamel - they are simply applied to the existing tooth. Because of this, Lumineers placement is completely reversible. Lumineers are easier to apply, but you will want to be sure that they are placed by an experienced cosmetic dentist.

Empress, DaVinci, Finesse, and other veneers

All of these manufacturers create great-looking traditional veneers. Please visit our veneers page for more information.

There are many different dental veneers options out there. Your dentist will know which one will be best suited to you.
